Avskedad på grund av könsbyte

Times Live berättar om hur en kvinna blivit av med sin anställning för att hon påbörjat en transitionsprocess (könsbyte) för en tid sedan. Chris Ehlers ansågs vara en belastning för det delvis svenska företaget Böhler Uddeholm Africa på grund av att de dels inte kan tolerera transpersoner och dels för att de inte vill ha kvinnor anställda för att de måste tänka på sin image. För att... image är ju otroligt viktigt. Inte minst i stålbranschen, uppenbarligen. Stål hör ju hemma i underlivet och ingen annanstans?

Court papers argue: "The respondent dismissed the applicant despite the fact that she has the necessary occupational qualification, skill and knowledge for the capacity in which she was employed."

Även om domstolen hävdar att intelligens och kunskap inte sitter i snoppen, tycks Böhler Uddeholm hyfsat förtjänstfullt hävda annorlunda. Så nu vet vi. Intelligens och kunskap sitter i snoppen och hjärnan har absolut inte med saken att göra. Tur det, för jag hoppades verkligen att mitt könsbyte skulle göra mig till ett ointelligent, dreglande kolli. Charmigt så det förslår.>

In their opposing statement to the Labour Court, Bohler Uddeholm Africa argue that Ehlers "at the date of appointment did not disclose that he intended or had commenced on the process of a sex change. When this was disclosed later it was agreed between the parties that the applicant would hide the effects of the process by dressing as he used to in a male fashion when visiting customers to protect the image of the respondent."

After Ehlers' ID book was changed to reflect her new name, and when a psychiatrist had written a letter to her company saying that she needed to wear women's clothes "to aid the transformation process", Bohler Uddeholm Africa argued that: "As a result of the above, the respondent was forced to implement the second option of personal redundancy. Through her actions, the applicant had created a situation where her continued presence in the office had become impractical and where the respondent's image in the industry had become compromised." 

Såhär kan det gå till runtom i världen då transsexuella kommer ut och påbörjar sin transitionsprocess. Man kan ju tycka att det här är ju något som händer där och inte här.

Men det sjuka är att det där är något som drar upp en del minnen för egen del. Här hemifrån Sverige. Jag har tyvärr en eller annan juridisk munkavle på mig så jag kan inte berätta min historia, och tänker heller inte nämna vilka parter som varit involverade i de historierna, men likheter finns. Frågan är... kommer jag bli stämd för brott mot den sekretessförbindelse jag skrivit under redan för att jag sagt såhär mycket? Historien lär visa det. Inte sant?
